Austin Reed takes his first top five finish in CORR Trophy Karts 10.01.07 Austin Reed, driver of the #14 Ringers Gloves, Approved Memory, Dirt Bagz Trophy Kart in the Junior 2 Class had a great 4th place finish this weekend at the Rock Quarry in Chula Vista, California The changes to his truck prior to the event were just what Austin needed to showcase his driving skills in his second CORR race. Saturday afternoon he ran the Heat Race and finished 6th. With only the top 5 finishers transferring to the Main Event from the qualifier, he was faced with running the last chance qualifier the Sunday morning. The team made some huge gains with changes that were made to the truck before the race with help from the combined expertise of DeJong Off-Road Racing, Todd from Fox Racing Shox, and Crew Chief, Troy Karakas. Austin took the green flag and got the hole shot to take the lead at the start. As he rounded the last corner on the first lap he pushed a little high and Cole Baldwin got under him to take the lead. Cole pulled away by some 10 trucks and with 3 laps to go Austin started to reel him back in by being smooth and running his line. On the last lap they were nose-to-tail as they came to the last corner where Austin made his move to the inside and the drag race was on. As the two got together it slowed Austin a bit and Cole took the win with Austin finishing with a close second and the fast time of the race. Austin started 12th in the Main Event with twenty trucks taking the green flag. He was off to another good start and by the first turn he was up to the 8th position and never looked back. He ran a smart race and had some good side by side action which resulted in an impressive 4th place finish, crossing the checkered flag just behind the 3rd place truck. Austin commented afterwards “I can’t wait to race my truck again at the CORR races. This track was a ton of fun. The table top jump at the end of the fast straightaway was awesome and at the next fast corner you could really slide the truck. I am really happy to finish in fourth, my first top five in only two starts. While the team had not planned on attending the upcoming CORR race at Texas, after the great weekend at Chula Vista, they would like to continue the momentum and are working towards making that event. |
