CORR closed circuit off road series at Primm

COTO DE CAZA, California -- Austin Reed, driver of the #514 Ringers Gloves, RBP, Headblade.com, Approved Memory, Pimphats.com, thenfactorpics.com Modified Kart Toyota Tundra  competed in the popular CORR closed circuit off road series at Primm, Nevada in what turned out to be an up and down weekend for the talented young driver.

The weather was blistering hot and so too, was the racing action…in all classes.  In Friday’s practice session Austin took a good liking to the race track, adapting quickly to the changes, he was in the top five for practice.

Saturday morning came early as Austin came on the track in European style qualifying. Hoping for some room in front to get a clean lap in,  he caught up to the cars ahead of him, which slowed his lap times to an 11th place staring spot.

The green flag came around 3:30 that afternoon and Austin moved up fast to the front while working with friend Connor Hart. The two drivers were skating through the field on a track that was recently watered down making it really muddy and slippery. On lap 3 Austin and Connor had climbed to 5th and 6th place with Connor in front, there was a sharp left hand off-camber corner that Connor “spun it out” . At that very instant Austin was reaching for a tear off and T boned his his friend’s ride. The 2 were stuck together, with the corner workers being unable to get them disconnected until after the checked flag had fallen. That put Austin in 15th place for the day’s race.

Sunday’s race proved to be a better one as Austin qualified 8th for the race. Soon after the start he had worked his way up to fifth on his run for the front when the full course caution came out for major visibility problems caused by the dirt kicking up so strongly no one could see. They brought out the watering truck to put some water down and when they went green again Austin was waiting for the flag to come out when everyone took off.  Austin was passed by 2 trucks putting him back to 7th. With just two laps to go spotter and winner of Saturdays Pro-2 main event, Ricky Johnson, kept Austin calm yet encouraged him to aggressively battle back for his positions. Austin successfully passed the 2 trucks back to finish the race with a fifth place for the day.

Kassidy Johnson, in her greatShowers.com, Twisted Sister Toyota Tundra JR2 kart hung in for a 14th place finish in Sunday’s race after suffering a mechanical issue right before the start  of Saturday’s main event and being unable to take the checkered flag.
