AUSTIN REED FINISHES 15TH IN 3RD PAVEMENT RACE

Austin

COTO DE CAZA, California -- Austin Reed, the 15 year old driver of the #14 Legend car, sponsored by Ringers Gloves, (RBP) Rolling Big Power, Headblade.com, Kalgard, K&N Filters, Vitamin Water and Approved Memory is gaining experience racing in circles and on pavement. Austin made the change from racing in off-road to the popular 600 Racing Legend cars at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale.

Austin has been under the guidance of teammate Ryan Reed and his father Mark testing the Friday night before each race and it is paying off. His lap times are improving with each practice and race. He entered his first race a month ago at Blythe Speedway. It was a National qualifier for Legends cars, with teams arriving from Utah, Nevada, Texas and CA. The competition proved tough and resulted in a 13th place finish on both Friday and Saturday.

The opening race for Legends at Irwindale was April 4th. Austin qualified 23rd and ran all 35 laps finishing 18th.

The following Irwindale race, on April 18th, resulted in a 16th place qualification. The hot conditions resulted in the track slowing up from the night before allowed Austin to pick up his lap times. Following qualifying, there was a nine-car invert which moved our teammate, Ryan Reed who had fast time, to the 5th row. The start of the race was marred twice as there were crashes going on in turn one on the first lap. The 3rd attempted restart was a single-file start. Austin made three passes and was moving up. Working lap 25 the leader caught and passed Austin, where he then ran with the top 5 cars for five or so laps while giving them racing room to get by when they got close. Lap 31 saw the driver of the 8 car driving over Austin's left rear fender coming off turn 2 and the caution came out for debris. This set up a green, white, checkered with Austin moving back into the 15th position to take the checkered flag. Our team mate Ryan was so close to winning the race when he was taken out with only a few laps to go.

Austin commented, I had a lot of fun this race and I’m getting more comfortable in the car and at the race track. Tobi Tobias made some changes to my car after the last race and we picked up quite a bit. We were also fortunate to add support in our sponsorship program from K&N Filters. They have some great products for Legend cars as well as our trucks that get our race team to the track.
