COTO DE CAZA, California -- Austin Reed, driver of the #14 Ringers Gloves, RBP, HEADBLADE, Approved Memory, Fox Shox, JDA Hose and Fittings Trophy Kart in the Junior 2 Class, and now the new Elite Karts will be racing in the 3rd round of the Side X Side (SXS) Nationals M4SX/Dirt Alliance at Lake Elsinore Motocross Park this weekend April 19th and 20th.
Austin is pulling double duty in racing both his Junior 2 Class Kart, with a new number 414, that he raced last year and the start of this year and his brand new Elite kart number 514 on Sunday.
The Elite/Modified Kart has a KX250F 38HP Kawasaki 4 stroke motor in it and will do 80 mph. Austin commented “We tested about a week ago and it was a blast. There is a lot more technical to driving this than the JR2 Kart as I now have to shift. One thing I am getting used to is backing the truck into the corner at speed. I can’t wait to get on the track in race conditions to see how we measure up to the other teams.”
Austin’s Dad, Dave shared “The last time we raced at LEMP the track was totally different. M4SX has outdone itself again and has changed the track again to be more of a true big track like the CORR trucks run. When we tested the speeds were way up and the track is really wide and fun for the racers. The corner turns are so big and fast it is like Daytona only in the dirt. This weekend is a warm up for us as the start of the CORR season starts April 25th-27th at the Pomona Fairgrounds.”
Austin will race the full season in the Side X Side(SXS) Nationals M4SX in both classes and is 3rd in points in the JR2 class after two races this year.Trophy Karts are smaller versions of the Trophy Trucks, The new Elite/Modified Kart has a KX250F 38HP Kawasaki 4 stroke motor, Chromoly Cage, thicker tubing than standard TK, 4wheel Disc brakes, Steering Rack, Rear Sway Bar, 22" Tires, 10" Wheels, 5spd Sequential Transmission, 4 Gallon Cell, 300M Rear Axle, 4 Link Rear Suspension, 2 Bros Racing Pipe, and will do 80 mph. The JR 2 Modified kart has a Subaru 15 horsepower sealed spec motor. Austin's Kart is prepared by DeJong Off-Road in Temecula, CA and is a teammate to Mitchell DeJong. Austin Reed a 14 year old 8th grader attends Norris Middle School in Bakersfield, CA and is the son of Dave Reed former NASCAR championship car owner in the Southwest Series.
